Accessibility
Everyone should be able to use this website: with a mouse, a keyboard or a screen reader, on a large or a small screen. Here is what I do for that, and how to tell me what could be better.
Last updated: 2 October 2026
My yardstick
I build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, the standard behind the European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549). I test with the keyboard, at 320 pixels wide, at 200% zoom and with automated checks. The same yardstick holds for the sites I build for clients.
What I do
- Every page has a clear structure with headings and recognisable regions, and a link to jump straight to the content
- A visible focus for keyboard users, in the dark theme too
- Descriptions for images, forms with labels and clear error messages
- Enough colour contrast in the light and the dark theme, and in every colour palette
- Respect for your device’s ‘reduce motion’ setting: the animations then stand still
Reading comfort
With the button showing a small figure at the top of every page (and at the bottom, and in the menu) you pick a profile in one tap (low vision, colour blind, reading is hard, hard of hearing, keep it calm) or choose what helps yourself: larger text, more or high contrast, colour correction, a big cursor, more spacing, a readable font, underlined links, a reading guide, read aloud with your device’s own voice, captions without sound and less motion. Your choice is kept on your device (in local storage, “a11y”), not with me.
The button replaces nothing: it only changes how the site looks, and the site also works without it, together with your own device’s settings. I deliberately use no third-party ‘accessibility overlay’: those often get in the way of screen readers.
What isn’t perfect yet
The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile against spam. Usually you won’t notice it, but sometimes it asks for an extra check that I don’t fully control. The pictures of client sites on the Work page are screenshots; what they show is also in the text beside them. If something doesn’t work for you, just email me: I’ll gladly help another way.
